The state begins registration to distribute 250,000 sacks of corn for animal feed in municipalities affected by the drought
Municipalities under a state of emergency due to drought in Bahia will be able to register in the State Government’s Food and Nutritional Security System to receive corn for animal feed. The announcement was made during a meeting between Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and mayors from 89 cities with emergency declarations to discuss immediate actions to mitigate the drought in Bahia.
““We will stand hand in hand with the mayors, with actions related to water, animal feed, delivery of equipment, and food baskets, to ensure assistance to the municipalities throughout the drought period,”, garantiu Jerônimo Rodrigues.
The initiative, coordinated by the Regional Development and Action Company (CAR), will allocate R$ 32 million to distribute 250,000 sacks of corn to 25,000 families raising goats, sheep, and dairy cows. For the municipalities to receive support, a registration form will be opened on the website so that approved municipal governments can register using their decree number and receive the benefit.
“The action will support a herd of over one million animals, including cattle, dairy cows, goats, and sheep. It is a joint strategy between the State Government and the Federal Government, aiming to bring relief to Bahia’s livestock farmers who are facing this difficult time caused by the lack of rainfall,” said CAR’s president, Jeandro Ribeiro.
The sacks of corn will be delivered to families registered in the National Registry of Family Farming (CAF). There will be 12 distribution points across Bahia, serving the territories of Irecê, Velho Chico, Chapada Diamantina, Piemonte do Paraguaçu, Piemonte da Diamantina, Sudoeste Baiano, Médio Rio de Contas, Vale do Jiquiriçá, Itaparica, Piemonte Norte do Itapicuru, Sertão do São Francisco, Bacia do Paramirim, Sertão Produtivo, Sisal, Bacia do Jacuípe, Semi-Árido Nordeste II, Litoral Norte, Agreste Baiano, and Portal do Sertão.
Deliveries are scheduled from April 28 to May 30. During the meeting, the governor also indicated that additional actions are being planned, in collaboration with municipalities and the Federal Government, to meet specific needs of each city in Bahia. One of the most common needs is water supply.
