Thailand’s agrifood company Betagro is elevating pet healthcare with the introduction of its new Perfecta Veterinary Diet line.

This line featuring specialized Anallergenic and Hypoallergenic formulas, is Southeast Asia’s first premium therapeutic nutrition designed specifically for dogs with food allergies.

Developed in close collaboration with veterinarians from a leading university, this launch signifies Thailand’s advancement in pet health innovation to international standards.

Somcharn Suphapitiporn, COO of Betagro’s Pet Business, said: “We recognize the significant concern pet parents have regarding canine food allergies. Our Perfecta formulas were developed specifically to alleviate this, emphasizing allergy risk reduction, palatability, and affordability. Importantly, sample tests demonstrate that dogs willingly consume the food, which is critical for consistent nutrition and effective treatment.”

Hydrolyzed protein with very tiny molecules

Both Perfecta Veterinary Diet formulas contain extensively hydrolyzed protein with very tiny molecules, making them virtually undetectable by the immune system. This advanced formulation effectively reduces or eliminates allergic symptoms like itching, skin infections, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Additionally, these formulas are free of gluten, corn, wheat, and are enriched with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, a synergistic antioxidant complex, and prebiotics to promote a healthy skin and coat while strengthening gastrointestinal health.

Specifically, the Anallergenic formula is designed for dogs with severe food allergies, featuring protein hydrolyzed to less than 1,000 Daltons.

In contrast, the Hypoallergenic formula uses hydrolyzed proteins smaller than 5,000 Daltons, targeting dogs with less severe or diagnosed food sensitivities.

“The formulation process for these diets is exceptionally complex, involving meticulous control at every stage. This includes intensive raw material selection, precise hydrolysis to ultra-small protein molecules, carbohydrate limitation to minimize allergy risk, and rigorous line cleansing to prevent cross-contamination. Every production lot undergoes random nutritional analysis and stringent laboratory examination to uphold the highest standards of product accuracy, quality, and safety,” Mr Somcharn explained.

Perfecta Veterinary Diet Anallergenic and Perfecta Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic formulas require veterinarian recommendation and can be sourced from pet hospitals, veterinary clinics, and authorized distribution channels.

Banking on premium pet food sales

Betagro’s pet business offers a diverse portfolio of pet food and snacks for dogs and cats, addressing a wide range of pet owner needs.

These products, marketed under the brands Perfecta, DOG n joy, CAT n joy, and BingoStar, are distributed through accessible channels such as pet retail stores, pet hospitals, veterinary clinics, modern trade outlets, and online platforms.

Premium dry food, wet cat food, and premium snacks are key growth drivers for the pet food market in the future, according to Mr Somcharn.

He said Thailand’s pet market continues its robust growth despite intense competition, primarily driven by pet humanization and a growing preference among smaller households for pets over children.

According to Euromonitor and Pet Marketing Intelligence, Thailand’s pet market was valued at around USD 1.3 billion in 2025, growing at an average annual rate of 12%.

The market is forecast to reach around USD 1.5 billion in 2026, with an anticipated compound annual growth rate of 13%.

While dry food retains its highest market share, wet food and snacks are outpacing overall market growth, making them appealing segments for producers.

Mr Somcharn said premium food, wet cat food and premium snacks will become key drivers of future market growth.

“The share of dog food and cat food is expected to be equal in the next 3-5 years as the cat population rises and cats become a popular choice for many households. Pet owners also want to pamper their pets with snacks,” he explained.

He added that the pet food penetration rate in Thailand is about 40%, compared with over 90% in Japan and the US, underscoring significant room for expansion.

To capitalize on this opportunity, Betagro plans to broaden its premium pet nutrition portfolio, boost brand awareness through brand ambassadors, celebrities and influencers in the domestic market, and pursue new international markets.

Betagro continues to expand its high-value-added product portfolio, including therapeutic products, wellness items and innovative snacks, all made with human-grade ingredients.

The company aims to raise the premium segment’s contribution to 54% by 2028, up from 45% in 2026.

Last year, Betagro’s pet business reported sales of around USD 81 million, a 25% year-on-year increase. This momentum continued into the first quarter of 2026, driven by capacity expansion, distribution channel growth and rapid international expansion, resulting in sales of around 21.6 million, up 22%.

In 2025, domestic sales surged 18% and export sales jumped 43%. Major export markets include Japan, the Philippines and Malaysia, and Betagro is actively exporting products to new markets such as Bahrain, the UAE, Brunei, Hong Kong, South Korea and the US.

Mr Somcharn said Betagro targets around USD 168 million in pet business sales by 2028.

Currently, the company is operating at 75% of its maximum capacity of 9,000 tons/month. The company is considering boosting capacity by installing new machines at its current facility.
