The Small Animal Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand on May 17 organized an academic seminar for pet owners under the theme ‘Love through the bowl: Proper nutrition for dogs and cats’.
The seminar reflected the important idea that food is not merely a daily necessity but the foundation of good health and quality of life for pets.
The event aimed to share accurate nutritional knowledge to help owners properly care for dogs and cats from the inside out, strengthen immunity, reduce disease risks, and sustainably improve their pets’ quality of life.
The event featured leading lecturers and veterinary nutrition specialists in Thailand who shared their expertise and experiences through a variety of engaging topics, including the following:
[1] Lunch talk: Therapeutic diets for our beloved pets
Participants learned the basics of therapeutic diets for dogs and cats to support targeted health recovery. The session was presented by veterinarians from Royal Canin (Thailand).
[2] How to craft the proper diets for our beloved pets
An in-depth discussion on selecting suitable diets based on pets’ age, lifestyle, and specific needs was presented by Dr Pomphet Nopphakunwijai, President of the Veterinary Nutrition Society of Thailand and Dr Palida Neuy Kiratibutra, veterinarian at the Internal Medicine and Nutrition Clinic, Phyathai 7 Animal Hospital.
[3] Veterinary nutritionist consultant for your loved one
Guidance on personalized nutrition approaches to ensure pets receive nutrients tailored to their health conditions and underlying diseases, presented by Dr Thita Taecholarn, veterinarian at the Kidney, Heart, and Diabetes Clinic, Bangkok Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University.
[4] Why vets worry: Alternative pet foods
A discussion on concerns surrounding alternative pet foods, including nutritional imbalances and contamination risks, was presented by Dr Saikaew Sattayatham, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University.
[5] Antimicrobial-resistant pathogens in raw meat-based pet foods in Thailand
A presentation highlighting the risks of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens in raw pet food and the implications pet owners should be aware of, presented by Dr Pattarat Chanchaithong, Associate Professor at Chulalongkorn University.
In addition to academic knowledge, the event also featured entertaining and memorable activities, including a Q&A Trivia Challenge with prizes, activity booths from leading pet food companies, special souvenirs, and certificate presentations for seminar participants.
