Vietnam overtakes Malaysia, Indonesia in soybean meal imports from Argentina

Escrito por: nutriNews Asia

Vietnam has overtaken Malaysia and Indonesia in soybean meal imports from Argentina, making it the largest importer of the feed raw material from the South American country.

The increase in shipments is linked to stronger trade ties and growing demand from Vietnam’s livestock sector.

In 2025, Argentina’s soybean complex remained the country’s largest agricultural export sector, generating around USD 21.44 billion in revenue. This was 9.2% higher than a year earlier and accounted for 24.6% of Argentina’s total merchandise exports.

By value, China was the largest market for Argentine soybean products at USD 4.79 billion. India ranked second with USD 3.72 billion, while Vietnam was third with USD 1.6 billion.

Argentina remains one of the world’s leading suppliers of soybean products. In 2024, the country accounted for 48.3% of global soybean oil exports and ranked second in soybean meal exports after Brazil, with a 21.7% share.

Argentine soybean meal was previously shipped mainly to European markets, but new trade agreements and changing demand patterns are shifting exports toward Southeast Asia. Vietnam is becoming a key destination due to strong demand for soybean meal from the livestock and food industries.
