Cargill exits aquafeed business in Vietnam

Cargill has stated that it is exiting the aquafeed business in Vietnam as part of a strategy realignment, which will include closing three facilities.

The US agriculture giant said after a thorough assessment of its aqua business, the industry landscape and competitive market environment, the company has decided to exit the aquafeed business in Vietnam and focus on other priority markets and species aligned with its long-term business strategy.

Cargill said the move includes shuttering two aquafeed plants in the southern provinces of Dong Thap and Long An, as well as the aqua technical application center in the neighboring province of Tien Giang.

“Unfortunately, this will impact jobs involved in this business, and we are working with the affected employees through this transition,” the company stated.

With its main office in Ho Chi Minh City, Cargill began operating in Vietnam in 1995 where its operations span animal nutrition and health, food and beverage ingredients, farm produce, feed ingredients, and food products.

The move in Vietnam follows Cargill’s announcement in December 2024 that it would lay off approximately 5% of its global workforce amid weak financial performance during fiscal 2024 and a restructuring of the business.
