CEPAL (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) organized an online seminar with the participation of various entities.
On November 9 and 10, 2023, CEPAL, in partnership with the Ibero-American Network for the Digitization of Agriculture and Livestock (RIDAG), conducted an online seminar titled “Progress in the digital transformation of the agricultural sector in Ibero-America. Specific initiatives and practical AgTech cases.”
This event was associated with the Agro 4.0 project, aligned with the Development in Transition Facility program (UN, CEPAL). In reference to this initiative, CEPAL underscored:
The notion of transitioning development holds significant relevance in Latin America and the Caribbean. While many countries are attaining increased income levels, they persist in grappling with structural challenges. These challenges encompass issues of poverty and inequality, alongside a diverse productive structure, constrained innovation capabilities, and insufficient diversification.
The event included the involvement of INTA Argentina, INIA Chile, INIA Uruguay, IRTA Catalonia, IICA (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture), and PROCISUR (Cooperative Program for Technological Agro-Food and Agro-Industrial Development of the Southern Cone).
According to information on the CEPAL website, the seminar covered successful AgTech cases where the participating institutions collaborated. The statement also mentioned:
In a period characterized by a groundbreaking transformation in the agricultural sector propelled by technological innovation, the objective of this seminar is to present elements that offer a contemporary perspective on the Digital Agriculture landscape in the region. To accomplish this, the institutions participating in the international seminar will exchange their knowledge and experiences, providing a thorough overview of the advancements and future possibilities in the digitization of the sector.
